Angels in Life…. We Just Happen to Call Them Moms
Have you ever met an Angel? I have and I call her Mom.
In our lives, we have the opportunity to meet and experience ‘Angels’ that touch, guide or help us in many different ways. I believe that the best Angels we will ever encounter are our Mothers. Mothers will always be by our side; they help, guide, correct, challenge, love, and push us to achieve our goals, helping us become who we are. They know our inner selves, and probably know us better than anyone else in our lives. Mothers enjoy our happiness, share our successes, and suffer when we fail or are sad.
Moms are a true blessing! Whether they are biological mothers or adoptive mothers, stepmothers or grandmothers, godmothers or others who “mother” us, we need to be grateful to these special women for their love and the unique role that they play in our lives. They sacrifice all for us. They are silently by our side, nourishing and protecting us, always doing it with dedication, devotion, and tons of love.
As Mary did for Jesus, Mothers give us their unwavering love and are willing to make any sacrifice to protect and guide us. Mary as a Mother taught us many secrets of life; she showed us the importance of caring and forgiveness by accompanying Jesus in his toughest and deepest sufferings as people abused and tortured him. Mary always showed Mercy to those that judged and crucified her son. She was always about her mission and always showed great mercy, grace, and forgiveness.
Mary is probably the most famous and important woman in history, but our Moms are the most famous women in each of our lives; like Mary, they will always show relentless love, mercy, and forgiveness. If we get to know Mary, we will understand the selfless love that our Moms have for us.
Saint Gianna once said, “Love and sacrifice are closely linked, like the sun and the light.” Moms, in caring for us, show us this love and sacrifice.
Mathew Kelly reflected that our future passes through our Mothers. Motherhood has a huge impact on what the future looks like for us, as they spend a lot of time working on the little things that define the future of us.
Now, sometimes being a Mother is a thankless job. We need to take the time to appreciate our Moms for what they do, and always try to be grateful.
I have had the fortune of having a great Mom by my side. Her name was Marilu, and she departed to the house of the Lord almost 11 months ago. My Mom was someone that was dedicated and loving; she allowed me to grow, pushed me, helped me develop and become a better person. She was always by my side, even at times where I was not for her. She left me with numerous teachings, memories, and good moments that I will always have with me and cherish in my heart. My Mom always showed me unconditional love. She enjoyed living, fought her challenges in life endlessly, always sought harmony, and showed endless devotion to my father and her family. My Mother gave to my Dad a selfless and absolute love; as a couple, they lived always looking for the happiness of each other.
Today, I live in gratitude for what my mother gave to me and the great example she was for me. I know that she is in heaven, and I’m filled with joy knowing she lived a full life and achieved her main goal in life: getting to heaven. I know she is always by my side and in my heart.
I also have been fortunate to experience motherhood through my wife Martha, who has become an exemplary mother for our four kids. Martha has shown our kids the importance of being both a partner to me and a support to each other. She has also shown them how to give to others, fight adversity, and be there for each other. Whenever our children need anything, Martha is there to nurture and guide them. I’m grateful to Martha for forming four wonderful, well-rounded, and exemplary children.
Mothers need recognition, encouragement, and gratitude. Today, let’s make a tribute to all of our Moms and wives – the angels that are by our sides who we are fortunate to have. It doesn’t matter if your Mom is alive or in heaven, or if you are close to her or not; today is a day of gratitude, recognition, and respect for these angels that we happen to call Moms.
Moms will always be there for us, and they do it by showing a selfless and unwavering love. In my case, thanks Mom for always being Marilu and thanks Martha for being a great Mom for our children.
May God always bless all the angels in our lives that we happen to call Mom.
